Getting a new NAS and thinking about upgrading my #homenetwork to 2.5G ... or maybe even 10G.
Anyone have any thoughts on #Mikrotik for inexpensive switches?

What I love about #railtrails is how close you get to history. I'm standing on a bridge (1) built for the West Penn Railroad in 1907 and abandoned in 1950, looking at remnants of old bridges from the original 1854 (2, 3; the footers and abutment) and 1882 (4; the pier) alignments.
Since I'm strictly indoor riding this winter, I'm going to post scenes from some of my favorite rides to date on Pennsylvania's #railtrail network.
Has anyone started a railtrail / #cycling / #biketouring Mastodon instance yet?
This isn't hyperbole, it's real: https://help.twitter.com/en/rules-and-policies/social-platforms-policy
Their new policy bans competing platforms. GET OFF TWITTER NOW.
There's an Elon tweet for every shitty move he does.
So about banning a bunch of other social networks now in place on Twitter.
Well...
An old #railroad #bridge along the #WestPennTrail. This bridge was originally much higher. When they built a nearby dam, this valley was flooded. These days you have to check the water level before you go out, because it sometimes gets submerged.

Company founder launched the concept after living in a "hacker house" that charged $1,000 per month for a bunk.
I'm tinkering around with spinning up a new instance, and saw a steal on a 4x2TB server.
I knew that RAID10 wouldn't be nearly as fast as an SSD, but I thought it would at least be tolerable.
In the time it took that RAID10 server to compile Ruby, I was able to create a VM, install Debian 11, and compile all of Mastodon and its dependencies on my older SSD-based server.
