Charts in CSS

Charts have been done in CSS many times before — there's even a dedicated project. So why this post?...

I hate not having a job. I just want to make cool apps. If you need an #iOS or #macOS developer, I've been doing this since 2008. I worked at Apple on the Reminders app, and I've got lots of #SwiftUI and #Swift experience. I'm really quite the catch.

Going deep with MS Copilot it's hilarious seeing how it copes with being asked about applying post-capitalist desire to the design of software applications.

It's taken to ending every response with this sort of verbiage. Kinda lovely in its own way.

@ferrisoxide If it helps, I wrote Hanamismith to make building a Hanami app much smoother: https://alchemists.io/projects/hanamismith

I'm also the architect behind Terminus (https://github.com/usetrmnl/byos_hanami) if you like using Hanami with TRMNL e-ink displays.

All of this is open source so might be of help and give you guidance. You can also search for my "Hanami" articles on my site if you need deeper dives (since the Hanami documentation is quite lacking): https://alchemists.io/articles

Mark Fisher’s “Post-Capitalist Island”

This post is a literal Deepseek answer, this morning, to the following prompt: "What is a postcapitalist island, in Mark Fisher's sense?" Mark Fisher's concept of a "postcapitalist island" isn't a meticulously defined term in his work, but rather a powerful metaphor and conceptual tool he used, primarily in Capitalist Realism (2009), to explore the possibility of imagining and creating spaces outside the seemingly all-encompassing logic of capitalism. It signifies a zone of exception […]

Getting Hanami to behave in a similar way to Rails' out-of-the-box support for Postgres peer mode isn't obvious, but this config for `.env.development` seems to work:

`DATABASE_URL="postgresql://$(whoami)@/[name of database]"`

So far so good, but does anyone want to talk me out of developing a greenfield app with Hanami? After ~20 years of Rails it's already feeling like I'm making things harder for myself than they need to be. Need encouragement to push ahead.

I firmly and passionately reject defeatism and doomerism. Not just reject it, but view it as a poison, a toxin that undermines advocacy and entrenches the status quo its purveyors claim to dislike. It’s preemptive surrender.

The science of modular software design is to package responsibilities into cohesive, loosely coupled modules that satisfy user outcomes.

#WritersCoffeeClub 06/17—As a writer, how anonymous do you want to be?

Not anonymous at all. The Brothers Grimm made their real names a household name, and I aspire to do the same.

If that means inconveniencing people abroad by making them figure out how to use the umlaut "ü" with their keyboards, then so be it.

When people talk about "survival of the fittest" or "the crime of empathy," I want clips like this to be pressed into the sides of those people's self-serving dumbfuck heads until they cave in.
