This is a warning about Meta and Threads.
Please boost this here and outside of Mastodon so that pregnant people in the United States are informed that using Meta/Threads is dangerous.
I'm unlikely to get pregnant but I have ZERO presence on Meta/Facebook/Instagram/Threads as a matter of principle.
The Zuck suck is in full swing. In the few short hours since I started using #Threads, #DuckDuckGo has already blocked over 200 data tracking attempts. These include things like "headphone status" and "screen density."
EDIT for clarity: The 200+ attempts *may* have been overcounted as DDG hadn't tooled their VPN for Threads yet.

Since my post about the #DuckDuckGo app and #Threads is still getting lots of attention, I want to be clear about how I actually feel about #DataPrivacy. It's a lot like #recycling. Yeah it's a good thing to protect your own personal data, but if we're being honest, it's not effective on an individual scale. We need good legislation at a national level to meaningfully change the game for the benefit of us all. Until then, no matter how careful you are, you're still being negatively affected.
It’s one thing to read in the papers about an audio file of a meeting, where Trump apparently showed our nation’s most top secret military plans to attack Iran to a group of random, unauthorized people at his golf resort in Bedminster, N.J. It’s another and frankly satisfying thing to see that audio file referenced in a 37 count indictment issued by a Florida federal grand jury, charging Trump with violations of the Espionage Act.
It’s shocking that we have to celebrate a decision by the Supreme Court that says that institutionalized cheating is not OK. But Republicans were really clinging to a fringe theory, as they’re running out of ways to steal power.
I guess Alito and Thomas can complain on their next Leonard Leo/billionaire-financed yacht trip.
