@codinghorror I've really only had one album I've listened to every day for months (although then I'd need a break), and that's Friends by The Beach Boys. It's Brian Wilson's nicest album, and lower maintenance for my brain than Pet Sounds or Smile. Works both as background music and as a focussed listening experience.
Wow the BBC technology page is full of the wonderful ways exciting technology is helping us as a society.
@crankylinuxuser @mekkaokereke I think we more or less agree, so I'm not really interested in dying on this hill. Besides, it could be argued that Columbo is really non-police detective fiction, with the fish out of water lone wolf truth seeker vibe closer to a blue collar Poirot than anything you normally find in cop shows.
@crankylinuxuser @mekkaokereke Columbo isn't. All his fellow cops are idiots, he lets small crimes slide, and he shields minorities from racist colleagues. Every episode is a wish fulfilment fantasy (related to the revenge flick, narratively) about how the power of deduction and the law can be used to bring down evil rich people. (I'd also argue that Twin Peaks should be exempt, but that's a little shakier since the whole department of hyper-intelligent weirdos in the FBI thing isn't realistic.)
@timriley Also known as Major Garland Briggs in some quarters! (His monologue in Twin Peaks s02e01 is one of my favourite scenes in all of TV history.)
Seeing an image and discovering it was #AI is like eating yogurt and then finding out it was way past its expiration date.
@Schneems @joeldrapper The problem with your reddit posts is the same as the other people who carry water for Ruby Central - you know the basic position (stealing access repo access from a maintainer) is indefensible, so you cloak your arguments in security theatre/misrepresentation, guilt by association ("your boy") and rhetorical sleight of hand (calling maintainers "maintainers" to sow seeds of uncertainty into the most basic facts in the case). It's undignified.
From what I've observed, people who claim that LLMs can replace artists don't understand art, people who claim that they can replace musicians don't understand music, people who claim that they can replace writers don't understand literature, and people who claim they can replace translators don't rely on translations. If I had a button that would erase LLMs from the world but it would take machine translations away (which is a false dichotomy anyway), I would absolutely still press it.

We cannot separate the everyday use of “AI” platforms from their use in death and war.

The media is such a wiener for Elon Musk.

The dude will say baseless nonsense like "in ten years every one will have telekinesis" and it'll be a headline with no skepticism.

Besides being an actual Nazi, he also has been wrong about everything for a decade. We aren't on mars, the hyperloop is a single-lane tunnel in one city, AI is still broken, and DOGE somehow added cost while reducing services.

He's an idiot. Stop quoting him like anything he says is meaningful.
