I wish large influential bodies like the EU would actually go as far as to make this law; once a product is no longer supported, an update should be released that allows full access to its boot components, to allow consumers to be able to develop or flash custom firmware for it at any time

No computer chip is sacred enough to demand full industrial secrecy, especially when you're selling those chips to consumers, that's not secrecy, that's artificial scarcity, and in some ways, planned obsolescence

All of this wastes the abilities and capacities of the high-tech fabs we've built to churn out chips, the only EOL destination it sees is a dispassionate throw into a garbage dump, literally the most wasteful you could ever be with a high-energy product like this

Not to mention the incredible disservice and apathy that does to the sourcing of the materials, which often come at high cost, and not just money

Literally everything about this makes me angry

Today's youth are doing everything they can to change their situation. But they aren't the people making decisions to subsidise fossil fuels, or cutting funding for climate policy, or undermining the carbon price, or pledging to restore oil and gas exploration.

They're just the people who will suffer for it.

The kids are right to be angry

Even if we take action and slow the pace of change, today's youth will live out their lives in a world fundamentally different from that enjoyed by older generations.

@rLok @pixelcats Ooooh I’m so jealous!! I just booked a trip to Japan but couldn’t make 北海道 fit my itinerary 😩

Anyways, I’ll join in with some adorable fur babies I met on a hike the other day!

@pixiecata Agreed, honestly who even listens to the radio anymore 😩
@pixiecata That being said, from what little I know of Billboard I have no doubt that they aren’t playing fair, and one can argue for days about the right way to measure popularity while Billboard continues to strip the rightful pop kings of their spots at No. 1
@pixiecata I feel like combined Spotify and Apple Music playtime would be the most objective metric. Not only is it easy to control for region, i.e. if you want to rank playtime just in the US, but it’s an almost universal mode of consumption. I would love to see fan sales be a determining metric, but since different genres are built around different modes of consumption, it would be unfairly biased towards heavy metal, indie, k-pop, etc. where physical product is the culture
#Rutgers #RutgersUniversity #union is officially on strike! Disappointed that it had to come to this but proud to know that my professors and grad students are speaking up for their rights 💪

Btw, what is your religious affiliation?

I am an atheist. Officially since the age of 14, when I went to the citizenship office in my hometown and declared my resignation from the Catholic Church. In Germany, you can't just be an atheist, you need an official confirmation.
