If you were to write a more inclusive history of #HCI, whom would you include?
Context: prepping for my user-centered interface design course, the day on historical foundations is ALL WHITE DUDES: Vannevar Bush, Ivan Sutherland, Douglas Englebart, J.R. Licklider, Alan Kay, Ted Nelson, etc etc...
Who else belongs in this canon?
Are you a U.S.-based #college #instructor who teaches introductory #English or #ComputerScience courses? Do you have a policy on #generativeAI use in your classes? We want to hear from you!
Please consider participating in a brief survey and 1-hour interview about the hopes and fears behind AI (non-)use policies in U.S. higher ed: https://lehigh.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_dbya12AjaGicGGy. Questions about the study? Want to chat about this topic? Feel free to reach out (DM, email, etc.).
@AJBurns @Birdbassador @cfiesler Agreed about the Qualtrics integration. Our lab has recruited from Prolific for experiments and interviews more than just for surveys, though they do offer demographic screening options.
It's also designed first as a research platform. Unlike MTurk, if a participant fails multiple attention checks, you can tell them and ask them to "return" the survey without submitting. Kinder than MTurk reject.
@natematias I've a friend who loves his waking desk. Maybe helps some?
Is that bike setup in your house?!? I feel like it's been really distracting. Not to mention that you wouldn't get the mental break that exercise usually provides...

Was this sorted out?
I was just trying to bridge this account to Bluesky (https://hci.social/@ericpsb/113482568374097013), and @julian suggested (https://hci.social/@[email protected]ial/113482658932785544) I check in with you all and see if you got it fixed.
My reading of https://github.com/snarfed/bridgy-fed/issues/1009 suggests it was _not_ fully resolved (and probably won't be soon), but I wanted to check.
Hey @ourhcicommunity, I'm trying to bridge my account to Bluesky following [these directions](https://fed.brid.gy/docs#fediverse-get-started), but @[email protected] doesn't show up as an account I can follow. The FAQ suggests this instance may be [blocking Bridgy Fed](https://fed.brid.gy/docs#fediverse-protocol-bot-user-blocked)? The [hci.social FAQ](https://docs.google.com/document/d/1TNzA5mMbkKhluLNVDqhvTkFWV7XzlWoR4ZujSGV0KVA/edit?tab=t.0#heading=h.4zbd0os68q6o) doesn't mention anything about this. Am I missing something? Can hci.social accounts bridge to Bluesky? Thanks!
