@JosephMeyer there’s another good article (I linked it below) that illustrates this tension really well, where people that all mean well end up working against each other and the people that often end up losing are the most vulnerable. Wow, I knew this was coming in a boring-dystopia kind of way but I didn’t think whoever did it would be dumb enough to tweet about experimenting on 4,000 people without their consent.
This is such a beautiful, heartbreaking piece on both the emotional difficulty of watching a loved one suffer and the logistical difficulty (at least in the US) of getting needed help for mental illness when the patient lacks insight into their condition. But your post reminded me of an article I read about pumpkin toadlets and the vestibular system and balance (https://www.theatlantic.com/science/archive/2022/06/pumpkin-toadlet-frogs-uncontrolled-landing-jumps/661262/) and maybe it was trauma there from the ear mites.
