The federal minimum wage is officially a poverty wage in 2025

In 2025, the federal minimum wage is officially a “poverty wage.” The annual earnings of a single adult working full-time, year-round at $7.25 an hour now fall below the poverty threshold of $15,650 (established by the Department of Health and Human Services guidelines). The limitations of how the federal government calculates poverty understate how far…

Well, I guess I won’t be filing any more bugs then.

I can see some _maybe_ semi-legitimate uses for training an LLM on developer content - like _potentially_ on dev forums or something like that. But not on my sysdiagnose logs that in the same dialog it says might contain sensitive information, and with apparently no opt-out.

Attached: 1 image Are you f* kidding me, Apple?! After a long time, I filed another bug report using Feedback Assistant because the bug was bad enough that it’s worth the effort of writing it all down. When uploading a sysdiagnose (or probably any other attachments) you get the usual privacy notice that there is likely a lot of private and other sensitive info in those log files. It’s not a great feeling but it is what it is with diagnostic data and I mostly trust the folks at Apple to treat it with respect and I trust the Logging system to redact the most serious bits. However, when filing a feedback today a noticed a new addition to the privacy notice: "By submitting, you […] agree that Apple may use your submission to [train] Apple Intelligence models and other machine learning models." WTF? No! I don’t want that. It’s extremely shitty behavior to a) even ask me this in this context where I entrust you with *my* sensitive data to help *you* fix your shit to b) hide it in the other privacy messaging stuff and to c) not give me any way to opt out except for not filing a bug report. Do you really need *more* reasons for developers not to file bug reports? Are the people who decided to do this really this ignorant about the image Apple‘s bug reporting process has in the community? How can you even think for a single second that this is an acceptable idea? So, WTF, Apple?!

Katelyn was a soul with a future that should have been protected and celebrated. As we come to understand more about who Katelyn was, we affirm and honor her truth as a transgender youth—a truth that far too often is erased, misunderstood, or denied, and her story demands that we, as a community, do better. Transgender and gender-expansive youth are navigating a world that frequently refuses to see them fully, love them deeply, or protect them fiercely. Katelyn’s passing is not just a...

Yep, Windows XP icons were designed and produced on a Mac in FreeHand.

Microsoft was our first paying client back in 1997: we made the icon suite for Outlook Express on Mac OS 9. It was the email counterpart to Internet Explorer 5.

@atpfm Monochrome ATP logo could have had two bars to emulate a code comment (if not for the six colors version)

A straight white guy friend was complaining about not being able to find any gaming groups for WoW that weren't full of MAGA assholes. He said he keeps joining guilds with older (60+) casual gamers like himself because he can't keep up with the kids, and he'll start to make friends, but then they will reveal themselves to be Trump-lovers. He asked, "What am I doing wrong?"

I said, "First of all, your screen name is Russian. Leftys are gonna be wary of that, and the Alt-right loves it.
Second, you should put some social signals in your bio, like pronouns."

"Okay, but how do I tell people I'm cool, but I'm not gay or trans?"
I explained to him what "cis" and "ally" mean. He had never heard of this before, which showed me what kind of online spaces he was landing in.

Next, I said, "Look for the furries."
"But, I'm not a furry?"
"Yes, but the presence of furries are like lichen. They are a sign of a healthy ecosystem."

This was about 3 months ago. Now, he tells me he joined a guild labeled as LGBTQ-friendly and has made several new cool friends. He says, "I thought they would be talking about sex all the time but it's just a regular group." He mentioned that there are many women and PoC in the group too, and "Everyone's so nice on dungeon runs, telling people they did a good job and being supportive, sharing loot."

I didn't tell him that this is what the whole world would be like without patriarchal toxic masculinity, because I think he figured it out himself.

For those of you who have a high-volume input channel and, recently, software offering to summarize it with AI… Do you summarize much/at all?

[Maybe boost for reach, really interested in the result here.]
