The Membership Engagement Committee of the American Statistical Associationâs Section of Statistical Genomics and Genetics (ASA SSGG) proudly presents a panel discussion on industry careers and internships for statistical genomics and genetics. The 1-hour session will be virtual on Thursday, May 25, 11:00 AM-12:00 PM EST. Whether you are a student curious about paths after graduation, in early careers and planning for long-term career path, or someone exploring the next industry position, or an academic researcher interested in collaborating with industry colleagues, you are welcome to attend this panel discussion to learn more about industry careers and internships. We are excited to have invited four panelists who hold positions in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry. Each panelist will give a 10-min presentation. They will introduce typical roles and responsibilities of industry careers, talk about what everyday work looks like, discuss key factors such as qualifications and competencies for a successful industry career, and share advice on how to find and land industry jobs and internships. There will also be 15-min Q&A with the audience.
For the ASA's Section on Statistical Genetics and Genomics, we are hosting a virtual panel on NIH Grant Funding and Review featuring Drs. Katerina Kechris, Jingyi Jessica Li, Li-Xuan Qin, and Grzegorz A. Rempala. Panelists have recent experience serving on four different #NIH study sections: ASPA, ASPB, BDMA and GCAT.

The four panelists are faculty with a successful record of NIH funding and recent experience serving on four different NIH review study sections -- Analytics and Statistics for Population Research Panel A (ASPA), Panel B (ASPB), Biodata Management and Analysis (BDMA), and Genomics, Computational Biology and Technology (GCAT). Topics will include an overview of the NIH review process, a comparison of different NIH study sections and how they may pertain to statistical genetics and genomics, general advice for writing NIH grant proposals, and more.
