Since kith.kitchen is shutting down at the end of May (https://kith.kitchen/@Paul/109966347224200867) I'm migrating my account.

I've been on kith.kitchen for most of its life, almost 4 years now. It's been a wonderful, cozy space for sharing a love of food and gardening. I hope to see many of you in my future Mastodon adventures. A big thank you to @Paul!

Kith.Kitchen will be shutting down on the 31st of May. I've not been able to dedicate enough time moderating this instance and we've struggled to build a moderator team. Thanks to all our members who helped to make this such a nice community, but all things must come to an end sooner or later. To those on other instances - can you recommend some nice communities elsewhere on the fediverse that our users can migrate to?

I have been avoiding commenting on the Rust trademark debacle because I have approximately zero energy for that right now but then I saw a thread of a bunch of extremely senior dudes calling for civility and labelling critics "hysterical" and I have no fucking tolerance for that tone policing, misogynistic bullshit.

Let me start out by saying: that is just as distasteful as people freaking out publicly over changes that could cause them to get sued. Being smarmy isn't going to actually improve behaviour. Be the change you want to see in the world, Leaders.

Maybe tomorrow I will talk about the pattern of this kind of "drama" and how these kinds of situations can be avoided with better leadership.

There are brilliant people on the fedi from all walks of life. LGBTQ, Black, Brown, neurodiverse, and the incalculable amount of overlap of those few descriptors.

The single greatest obstacle to progress in the fedi is the idea that whiteness should dictate what the core experience in this space should look like.

Whiteness cannot entertain the infinite potential of this space because it is an ideology that even hates itself.

And we are in a challenging transition away from it.
