For six years I had the responsibility of running Politwoops, the @ProPublica site that tracked deleted tweets from politicians.

Today I published its eulogy. Gonna miss this news app that was revealing& silly at the same time:

After a Decade of Tracking Politicians’ Deleted Tweets, Politwoops Is No More

Whether officials were deleting an embarrassing post or just correcting a typo, Politwoops tracked them all. But service changes made after Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter have rendered it impossible for us to continue tracking these tweets.

Lucas Wright led a team last year to do mock impact assessments based on two algorithms that caused significant harms. Here's what they learned.

Does anyone on here work on the Twitter API or know someone who does? Because it looks like with recent Twitter API changes, @ProPublica can't track deleted tweets from politicians anymore w/ Politwoops -- https://projects.propublica.org/politwoops/

The API we used for years has been deprecated, and the v2 API simply...does not seem to report deletions correctly. The new method to ingest tweets also seems very limited. And I'm not sure we actually understand what the paid model would be!

ChatGPT writes 15% longer and more critical performance feedback for women employees. It also relies on stereotypes to choose pronouns. Examples: kindergarten teacher, nurse and receptionist = "she". Mechanic and construction workers = "he".
