Your annual Flowers-builds-saunas check-in from the haunted north!
Business was slow this year, so my partner and I spent spring and summer salvaging materials to build our own DIY sauna in the garden, cheap and fancy.
The autumn season was completely taken up by the build. We finished it mere days before the polar vortex arrived. Couldn't be happier to have our very own healing space to use and share in these dire times.

Re-reading "The Power of the Powerless" today. That essay (laugh all you want, comrades) was kind of the beginning of my path to radicalization. I have a feeling it will resonate in today's US.
I wonder how long until our Revolution, and whether it has any chance of being Velvet. Trying to "live in truth," as Havel famously put it, is something more of us could do if we want a chance.
A Diné comrade near Gallup #NewMexico needs to fix the roof of their sister's hogan. They have the tools and the plan, just need $1,500 for materials so they can do the work before the monsoon.
The amount of firewood they have to process to keep this place warm is really beyond reason. Insulating this roof will literally change their life.

Started a sauna install in an old partitioned garage this week. There was a CD player in there, with this CD in it.
Needless to say we listened to it like five times in a row while we worked. It's an absolute treasure of cringe.
It made me think of a story a friend told me once about a guy they encountered outside First Avenue in the nineties who introduced himself as Rasta Bill Jaworski.
