I'm not sure I'd say that gambling companies are "more willing to sponsor open source".

They're buying high value backlinks with custom link text, not even knowing or caring what these projects are.

The "Sponsoring" part is just an easy angle to make this look more palatable.

So I don't think the comparison works.

Fittingly, with PHP's birthday today, we will have the kick-off meeting of the #PHP8_5 release managers today.

Excited to give back to php-src in this way as well over the next couple of years.
