Pocket Z project aims to build $99 Linux PCs that fit in your pocket

Before smartphones with touchscreen displays began to dominate the mobile computing space, device makers tried out a number of different form factors to see what would stick. There were stylus-driven devices like the Apple Newton and Palm Pilot, thumb keyboard devices like the BlackBerry line of phones, and mini-laptops like the Psion Series 5mx and HP Jornada […]

OSS: open source software

I prefer FOSS (4 freedoms software).

Seems like a good read for anyone with extra time to spare.

Seems like the author tries to help others avoid situations that could be best described as people "playing office" (quote from a three-year old).

Here is my first request for the #MastodonWishList group
@mastodonwishlist

I would like to have the ability to embed an external image file (say a file posted to postimages.org) in a toot like a youtube video.

This feature would help reduce the amount of disk storage required for many instances.

Boost if you would also like to see this feature added in the future.

Ahem: @Gargron

Newbie question:
I'm using the web interface.

Is there a way to embed an image (from say postimages.org) into a toot instead of attaching the image to the toot which requires more disk space?

Including a link lets people open the image in another browser tab but does not display the image inside the toot.

All those images must be taking up a gazillion bytes of disk space somewhere.

Thanks

Within a (few) days I'm gonna do a full database clean to remove all deleted posts, banned accounts etc. Basically all garbage that's been collected overtime Unfort for that the instance will be offline since I currently cannot affort to upgrade the server for this.. :flan_worried: It'll take a few hours max and I will be giving a warning a few times before! So not now but within a few days, first I'm gonna wait until the media clean is finished

@arstechnica
The #ArsTechnica news feed account looks nice.
Really nice to see Mastodon icon/link on your web site.

If you decide to remain with Mastodon (hopefully you will) and wish to invest more in Mastodon then maybe consider setting up your own Mastodon server (say social.arstechnica.com)

It seems unlikely that mastodon.social would get a #fediblock but with a DDOS attack people might have trouble reading your toots. Just something to think about.

Toot on!

@arstechnica 1000 Welcomes to the #Fediverse - it's about freaking time.
Well done.
Please inform your competitors that you just got a bunch of new readers by joining Mastodon.

Back in the day, when I used #BirdSite, I had your account in a list so I could read your articles anywhere without having to be logged in to the system.
I miss that list feature.

Now I add accounts to hashtags so that I can find them easier.
It's easier to me to visit
