The cancellation of the most advanced US small modular reactor project dealt a severe blow to hopes of a new nuclear revival. To keep nuclear as an option for low-carbon power, governments need to do more to support new plants. https://www.woodmac.com/news/opinion/major-setback-for-nuclear-power/ #nuclear
A major setback for nuclear power |

The decision to cancel the first small modular reactor planned in the US is a blow to hopes of a new source of dispatchable low-carbon power.

Whales provoke emotional responses to offshore wind | Wood Mackenzie

There is no evidence that offshore wind development is causing whale deaths in the US. It has become a political issue nevertheless.

There is literally no evidence linking offshore wind development to whale deaths. The times and locations of whale Unusual Mortality Events don't match the timelines for offshore wind activities in the US. But whales are precious animals. Some species, such as North Atlantic Right Whales, are gravely endangered. And it is well-documented that human activities can affect whales in some circumstances. So it is understandable that people are worried when whale deaths rise
The putative link between whale deaths and offshore wind, more signs of progress in the drive to "electrify everything", and why VC firms are setting net zero goals. The Energy Gang podcast is recording its long-promised Nuclear Special this week. It’s with Katy Huff, head of nuclear energy at the Department of Energy, Carl Perez, CEO of Exodys Energy, a nuclear engineering company, and Melissa Lott, director of research at Columbia University’s Center on Global Energy Policy. Let me know if you have any questions you would like me to ask them! #nuclear #NuclearPower
#introduction I work at Wood Mackenzie, the research and consulting firm, talking and writing about the transition to low-carbon energy. I write a weekly newsletter, Energy Pulse, published at WoodMac.com, and host the Energy Gang podcast. WoodMac covers every sector in energy and natural resources, from cobalt to coal and ethane to EVs, and we have detailed data and insights on all of those industries. I am still on Twitter as @ed_crooks, but I plan to post more here in the future.
