I’m in the lab today looking at #moss samples from Casey Station, East #Antarctica 🇦🇶

I just applied to #HomewardBound #TeamHB8🥳

This application took a lot of reflection, but it was worth the effort. It's not the 1st time I've applied, maybe it won't be the last. I'll keep using my privelege to work towards #ClimateAction.

Mother Nature needs her daughters.

#Introduction We're big fans of extinct megafauna at Nature Ecology & Evolution, so we're delighted to be here on Mastodon. Still mostly posting on Twitter (for now, at least) but as we get the hang of things that may change.
I wrote a thing for The Conversation about the potential for a #TwitterMigration based on our past research. Including a little bit about #Mastodon though I have a lot more thoughts than are in this piece. :) https://theconversation.com/mass-migration-from-twitter-is-likely-to-be-an-uphill-battle-just-ask-ex-tumblr-users-193677
Mass migration from Twitter is likely to be an uphill battle – just ask ex-Tumblr users

The communities that call Twitter home might decide to pack their bags. If they do, they are unlikely to be able to completely reconstitute themselves elsewhere.

Ten Tiny Mastodon Newbie Cultural Tips 🐘:

In random order 👇

1. Add Alt-Text to you pictures! It’s the norm here.

2. Use Content Warnings (CW) generously.

3. BE KIND 💚

4. Respect the work that your instance’s admin(s) do for you. Support them financially if you can, this is volunteer work there are no ads here.

5. Read the Code of Conduct and Server Rules for your instance. These are different between instances. You usually can find this information by adding “/about” or “/about/more” after your instance’s website address (which is the same as your instance’s name).

6. Do exchange genuinely with people. Interact!

7. Add genuine info to your profile’s bio.

8. It’s not the best to only use your account here to automatically forward all of your tweets without ever interacting. We are here to be here. This is not an advertising platform, and people might unfollow or mute you for this.

9. Many features that are not like on Twitter have been left out deliberately for a good reason. Respect that. Listen to the Mastodon elders.

10. This is NOT Twitter. It is MUCH better! 🐘✨

BE KIND! HAVE FUN! BE GENUINE! MAKE FRIENDS!

Time for an introduction! I’m Georgia 👋🏻

If you don’t know me from Twitter or IRL, I’m an #ecologist from Dharawal Country (Wollongong, NSW, Australia). I work as a #research officer for a program called Securing Antarctica’s Environmental Future & visited Casey station in the Windmill Islands region of East Antarctica last season as part of the 75th #ANARE 🇦🇶

I’m passionate about #ScienceCommunication, #IntersectionalEnvironmentalism & #ClimateAction 🌏
