Proud #GTK and #GNOME dev; member of the GNOME Foundation.

Opinions are always my own, but if you don't like them that's too bad.

@cassidy Same people that think what they want should they override what other people want. “GNOME doesn’t listen to what users want” is just code for “GNOME should only listen to me”
Every now and then people share languages with very minimal or very uniform syntax (think Lisp, or Haskell, or Forth) and go "look, all the noise is gone". And to each their own, and familiarity goes a long way, but I think I've pinned down my feelings about it, which is "that wasn't noise, that was signal; I was using as scaffolding when reading the code and now I have to wade through every token linearly".
@grimmy the time saving aspect requires the same level of magical thinking as packaging: "it'd be a solved problem already if everybody just did what I do". You just have to ignore all externalities, and everything works perfectly fine.
The real problem with LLM/GenAI tooling is that I now have to spend a lot of my time dealing with, or writing, policies for projects I collaborate on, and I can't just say "don't", or give up, or fork, because I am not made of time and infinite resources, and self-immolation is a fundamentally stupid way to get the last word
@tante this is why these people are terrified of the artificial super-intelligence torturing an emulation of their mind: unlike every other human, they are uniquely so simple to emulate, a Texas Instruments graphical calculator could do that

"I admit, this is an innovation I did not see coming: Silicon Valley has invented the philosophical zombie from the classic thought experiment "lol how crazy would it be if there were a philosophical zombie.""

(Original title: Marc Andreessen is a philosophical zombie)

Marc Andreessen is a philosophical zombie

Andreessen caused a minor kerfuffle by saying on a podcast that he doesn’t introspect at all, and that in fact, people shouldn’t. What’s really going on?

Rewatching Dan Olson's "The Future is a Dead Mall" after the announcement that Meta is killing off the metaverse. It's been almost three years to the dot.
