I commend folks like @malwaretech saying what needs to be said about how very dangerous and scary Twitter’s downfall - and indeed even meaningfully contributing to Twitter has become. I just feel powerless to convince even my own close friends that it’s very important to start to migrate elsewhere, because they’re enabling what’s happening, and it’s eventually going to harm them too.

It’s like any tragedy that befalls less privileged and more vulnerable people first. It’s so easy to ignore it happening for the sake of your own comfort if you’re safe for the time being in your privilege.

I thought there was a fediverse/Mastodon client that supported interleaving multiple accounts "home" timelines. Would really prefer for that to start being a thing now.

[Bl] is a Discord these days (which I haven't opened in months), and <nettime> seems to be moving to Mastodon.

Strange world, this.

It wouldn't be a December 9 without me reminding everyone that on this day they released the US Senate Torture Report, never forget

Americans can't build houses. My room is several °C warmer than my housemate's room that has the thermostat, while another housemate's room on a different floor (which for some stupid reason is controlled by the same thermostat) is several °C colder.

Here's the thing tho: my window is open.

How?

Canary in the Coal Mine: Twitter and the End of Social Media

https://crimethinc.com/TwitterCanary

Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter confirms the end of social media as we have known it, at least for the purposes of positive social change. Now all the major platforms that played roles in the movements of the past decade have been brought under the direct control of reactionaries determined to make sure that they cannot be used to coordinate resistance.

The question is what comes next. Will reactionary billionaires determine all we can discuss and imagine? Or will we establish other channels via which to communicate, other forms of connection?

Is there life after social media? Will reactionary billionaires determine all we can imagine and do, or will we establish other forms of connection?

Reminder to anyone who supports the NYT staff's labor action: unless a miracle happens and we get a contract deal by midnight, we will be walking out for one day tomorrow, Dec. 8.

We'll be asking supportive readers to abstain from visiting/using NYT offerings for the day, midnight to midnight. That means articles. That means multimedia. That means... Wordle.

I know. That one pains me too. But maybe the word will be like LYMPH and we'll all be lucky to miss it.

Tomorrow's wordle answer is UNION, and the spelling bee pangram is SOLIDARITY.

Don't cross the picket line.

I'd like to see all the trades represented in prose.
