My current research is about Black women who attended Columbia U before 1954 including women such as May Edward Chinn (L) and Lucy Diggs Slowe (R):

@JohannaMellis @smaran My server bans casteism too.

I'm like, do we all have to move there now cuz I'll be the odd one out? But when I posted that, I broke my instance and got locked out for a while. Coincidence? 🤣

Hey @smaran, mstdn.social which I'm on also bans casteism. It would be great if COVID denialism was on the list too but hopefully we don't have that here!
@avielroshwald this is what I’m talking about. This app will be much better with you and @drhettie
Alright, this seems to be a mandatory #Histodon / #Histodons ritual: I'm a historian of African American experiences, the U.S. South, and of white supremacy and gender. My first book was on white (supremacist) women, class, and Massive Resistance (UGA Press, 2021). Currently, I am working on 19th and 20th century transnational histories of Black concert dance (and could not be more excited about it :)). Thanks for reading, and I look forward to connecting on here.

If you're a Twitter migrant looking to rebuild your feed:

1) Consider using Debirdify to search your follows / followers for Mastodon info: https://pruvisto.org/debirdify/

2) Update your Twitter bio so others can find you with apps like Debirdify: https://twitter.com/MaxKennerly/status/1589043138617692162

3) Explore journa.host, which has lots of familiar Twitter folks: https://journa.host/explore

The latter is run by @adamdavidson

This is a web app that helps you find out which of the people you follow on Twitter are on Mastodon/in the Fediverse already and follow all of them easily.

Protip: if you see nasty and hateful content from a server that supports that kind of content, block the entire server by pressing this.

Have yall seen the blacktwitter instance? I just joined up on that one.

Love to see things moving so quickly.

Just a note to thank @stux for creating such a warm welcome for those of us here on mstdn.social, here to test the waters and spread good karma with each other! I sent some Ko.fi funds to help with the tech infrastructure needs of the influx and hope other #histodons and new arrivals will do the same for their host/admin!

@tvmojoe @Emilynussbaum I started to watch earlier but I have some film festival things to screen before I finish. I'll let you know about the ads, Joe.

Also, since so far I only have historians here, it's delightful to know that if I ever make the switch full time, you will both be here too, bringing wonderful things to my attention as well as sharing jokes and puzzle results!
