A postmortem of three recent issues

This is a technical report on three bugs that intermittently degraded responses from Claude. Below we explain what happened, why it took time to fix, and what we're changing.

Huh, spam from 1Password offering me “Early access to Comet, the new AI browser from Perplexity”. I’m perplexed all right, about why 1Password, an outfit I mostly like, is doing this. I want a serious relationship with my security-technology providers, not a spammy one that flirts with sketchy totally-unrelated products.

Who could have figured out that automatically downloading half the internet and ten thousand always-changing dependencies every time you build could actually be a weakness?

In my own story, I discovered JLR outsourced different cybersecurity areas to TCS and then made many of the UK team redundant 6 months ago.

This is a Dystopian timeline: My wife was let go after 25 years working for the same bank this morning. In an apparent oops, the bank's IT department hard wiped ALL her IOS devices remotely, while she was on the road driving, relying on the GPS function. The screw you cherry on top? Our apartment building in its infinite wisdom a couple years back switched all building locks to the Latch app. So she was LOCKED OUT OF OUR HOUSE. Oh, and the Latch maintained intercom at our front door is out of order. Thanks for that. Sheesh.

Mastodon's Killer Feature - Data Permanence

Lately there's been focus on the inherent anti-censorship advantages of Mastodon, but the potential for data permanence is also where the decentralized Fediverse shines.

Some users, like academic and scientific communities, highly value knowing content will be available 5, 10, 20, even 50 years in the future.

With Mastodon, institutions can host their own servers, ensuring independence from social media corporations to safeguard their data.
