@theblazetrends Captivity does not allow individuals to make their own decisions, choose their own relationships. Dispersal is necessary, but they are as prisoners. How can the psychological well-being of highly vagile wolves be adequately met in such a fixed square of earth? How can wolves be wolves without the hunt, without their annual cycle of being, out of natural context? How necessary is this denial of agency.
@ravenbait The server I'm on doesn't allow nearly enough characters. To add to the previous message, you're one of the exceedingly few in this world of which I wish physical distance wasn't an obstacle.
@ravenbait I understand. Human psychology is a mine field. The boundaries and interactions are different online. Even in the flesh, if not explicitly stating this or that, people project, hear what they want or expect. Which often enough leads to incorrect ideas. I trust few to listen. When one is allowed access to medical notes, it's fascinating to peruse such feedback. Even the professionals have penned the opposite spoken. A witness by my side, who knows how to listen, to confirm.

@adtothebone Indeed. Wolves (Canis lupus, C. lycaon*, C. rufus) ranged the entire contiguous United States and Alaska.

The federal extermination campaign is well detailed in the borrowable book, Predatory Bureaucracy: The Extermination of Wolves and the Transformation of the West, by Michael J. Robinson - https://archive.org/details/predatorybureacr00mich/mode/2up

*Taxonomic identity still being sorted.

@sarae @GPJohnston @WesternWatershedsProject The threat is not a rational one. What's actively harmful, revolting really, is psychologically terrorizing children in eagerness to impede the restoration of a critically endangered subspecies of grey wolf. This is ancient wolf wars tripe. I recall these innocent folk going on and on ad nauseum about setting up kid cages on their rabidly anti-wolf platform, Wolf Crossing, back in the day. Not innocent, not a legitimate concern.

@Karen5Lund Unfortunately, the House has already passed the manipulatively named "Pet and Livestock Protection Act" (H.R. 845) with a 211-204 vote on 18 December 2025. Now it is with the Senate, thus we need people to contact their senators - https://www.senate.gov/senators/senators-contact.htm

Thank you, and to all for any effort to protect wolves and slow this accelerating biodiversity loss.

U.S. Senate: Contacting U.S. Senators

An irruption year for Bubo scandiacus.

'Their appearance in numbers has taken Snowy Owl experts by surprise. “We expected it was going to be a dull winter,” says Scott Weidensaul, naturalist and co-founder of Project SNOWstorm, a research project focused on the species. Weidensaul and his team hadn’t heard the reports of significant breeding that would typically precede a major southward irruption of owls. But “the Canadian Arctic is a big place,” he says.'

An Unexpected Baby Boom Is Bringing Snowy Owls South This Winter

A nonprofit science group has discovered a great deal about the species over the past decade, but the irruption shows that Snowies still have the power to surprise.

@ai6yr For a moment I was relieved to not have to deal with that rot. Pulled my mate's Military Pass out of my wallet... expired?? On some distracted day once upon a time, I must have ordered him an annual rather than the intended lifetime pass. Remedied. Hoping this one won't turn up having also been rendered revolting. Feel hackled just thinking about it. Yay, for beautiful stickers. Thanks for sharing!

12:31 - Wow, that one may live under my shoulder blades now. Trying to imagine the full range of experiencing such a voice in the flesh.

The McMurdo Oceanographic Observatory used to host a live stream, but am 6 years too late.
