Some career news: I’m leaving NPR as part of the layoffs that dramatically reduced the company’s workforce.

I’ve decided to go back into Ukraine to keep reporting.

But this time, alone.

I spent the last 10 days deep inside the trans Himalayan mountain ranges of Ladakh, India, at over 4000m elevation to look for the Ghost of the Mountain: Snow Leopards.

The region is a dry cold desert, with less snow than you’d expect in March. This means photographs like this one are possible, with the elusive creature traversing one of the slopes that has been coloured deep red and purple by the high iron content in the ground. #snowleopard #ladakh #wildlife #leopard #mountains #himalayas
