Just finished watching #thegameawards2023 . And seeing a man in full plate armour almost cry was not on my bingo card but it is entirely my fault. BG3 deserved it for sure.
But this year felt a bit rushed, I think they could have gone for another hour, and let the guest and speakers go on for a bit longer. Have some standup bits, more geek stuff! Celebrate how (in theory) everyone in that room loves video games.

if you want to make a bevel soft, marking its edges soft will cause dome-like shading on the top face (bad)

one fix is to add extra edge loops, but this adds triangles (also bad)

so, I've now added a way to weight half-edges, to prioritize certain faces, with no extra geo! c: 🎉

1. select the half-edges you want to edit
2. select weighted normals
3. adjust

1.0 = full priority, ignores neighbors
0.5 = equal priority, regular smooth shading
0.0 = no priority, neighbors fully control the normal

True zen
Currently watching @acegikmo speaking at Dutch Game Day. Super interesting, nice to see such a technical talk at a smaller industry event.
Bonus lore: the Dutch government put the wrong year on my birth certificate and it had to be officially reissued so I am a living “lies programmers believe about” example

Just a reminder for mod makers. It seems like many are forgetting that Forge Energy is essentially a PUSH system. That means that generators and batteries PUSH energy to adjacent blocks. Cables or blocks should never extract energy from something!
the market for network-controllable power strips is weird
it's two things:
1. 50$ devices intended for use in the home. 3 plugs, connects to some cloud service, shiny and available on amazon
2. 300$ devices with 8 ports and you can talk to it over RS232 and 10/100 ethernet and the web stack fits on a 64kb eeprom and it's only purchasable on a website that was last updated in 2008

Fun tip of the day: Most syntax highlighters as well as prettier understand other web languages as template tags. You don’t need to install any packages, simply alias `String.raw`, the default (implicit) tag!

Both files were identical and then processed by prettier.
