For those who think that #OpenSource is primarily about technical quality, may I recommend Uncurled by @bagder? After decades maintaining curl + other projects, his advice keeps circling back to pragmatic tips about working with people.

Turns out the most important skills in the long run are to stay motivated, encourage contributors, + support users. Compared to that, taking care of the code is much more straightforward.

Would anyone be interested in a retro-tech conference?

The best ideas occur while drunk, don't you agree? Having just attended the blisteringly brilliant Hackference Brum, a bunch of us were drinking in a pub and chatting about how focused on the future most conference are. There's rarely any time to reflect on the past. That got me thinking... Terence Eden is on Mastodon@edentGENIUS (drunk) idea. Retro conferences. Everyone turns up in 1970s…

This is Mastodon and this is why it rocks!

So this is quite good...

"Every fiber of our union is being poured into fighting the billionaire class and an economy that enriches people like Donald Trump at the expense of workers. We can't keep electing billionaires and millionaires that don't have any understanding what it is like to live paycheck to paycheck and struggle to get by and expecting them to solve the problems of the working class."

Have recently squirted analitcs back into the blog. Wow, no one reads it:-) So much for appearing in the Guardian and publishing since 2001 lol;-)
So having made it to a few events recently, I'm noticing no one taking their phone out.
This feels like a good thing. Once upon a time an event wasn't real unless we tweeted the hell out of it. Now that am moving to Masto I wonder if this is any different, or if we've simply grown up and want to be present in the room?
