An exercise with glass stringers, which are about as thick as angel hair pasta.

I used a candle flame to heat the glass stringers and shape to bend, then used a small dab of glass glue to secure the stringers to a precut pieces of glass. Fire to full fuse in the kiln (roughly a 12 hour cycle), and you end up with these coasters that were made and given away as anniversary gifts.

Scrap glass strips turn into a happy little accidental tree.

Screen printing with powdered glass (frit) works as the same principle as ink on fabric. Create a design and apply to a fine mesh screen. Brush frit over the design and onto the glass underneath.

Pictured here are two somewhat detailed and intricate designs, full fused, roughly 4" x 4" drink coasters. The raven was created with black frit, and the labyrinth is aventurine blue.

Frit comes in various sizes, from pebble sized to powder. The top two "piles" of frit are pre-fired in a kiln. The bottom two beads of glass are frit that has been fired. This particular glass is a striker, meaning it will change colors based on the kiln temperature range used for full fuse. In this instance, I went mid-range, resulting in a burnt orange opalescent color.
