People having abortions won’t affect your life. Gay people getting married won’t affect your life. Trans people existing won’t affect your life. But people owning AR-15s sure as fuck will.
@sfchronicle Tokyo has no trash cans on the sidewalks. People take their stuff with them. And they don’t eat while walking the streets. And yet we think America is superior. Coming back from another country it was obvious that Americans are filthy, lazy, and inconsiderate compared to many places.
@RoverStoker @HighTechWriter @rbreich Ethics violations and donations to seditionists are immaterial to a capitalist business. It’s goal is to make money in any way possible, and “good” or “bad” are not relevant to it. A company like Coke doesn’t care at all about the diabetes it causes - but will sell sugar-free because it can profit from that market, too.
@HighTechWriter @rbreich is the leopard that pounces on you and kills you evil? Of course not; it’s simply doing what it innately should be doing: surviving. Likewise, businesses in a capitalist environment have absolutely no responsibility to social ideals - unless it’s some sort of good advertising to get more business and make more profit which is their primary goal. So a “litmus test“ doesn’t make any sense in this setting.
@rbreich I agree completely. Capitalism is amoral and could not care less what happens as long as it maximizes profit. Companies that act like they have a social responsibility or abdicating from capitalism. The business will run over you and your family and your environment as long as it makes money. Don’t confuse this with socially responsible.
@Chuckshafer @Etpet29 @MeidasTouch I think of it like smoking: inhale all you want, but when you exhale it affects me - and now it’s my business and you need to be thoughtful.
@Etpet29 @MeidasTouch right. Simplistically: God says that these people are not OK, and I’m taking care of that. I’m sticking to my strict, religious beliefs, and they aren’t, so my own particular crusade is what God wants, and who can be against me?
@becka I would expect it to go the other way: I won, that justifies everything I’ve been doing.
@becka Al Franken.
@georgetakei So you’re asking us to follow you when you toot? You know, I really like you but that’s a bit of a difficult ask.
