"More than 40 years ago, Congress established the U.S. Institute of Peace (USIP) as an “independent, nonprofit, national institute” to “promote international peace and the resolution of conflicts.”
The Department of Government Efficiency just took it over.
“What has happened here today is an illegal takeover by elements of the executive branch of a private nonprofit,” USIP’s now-fired CEO George Moose told the Associated Press and others Monday, following a police standoff that ended in DOGE officials entering the building.
Moose said the building is not federally owned and that its employees do not work for the executive branch, putting its operations outside of DOGE’s purview. “Somehow, all of those arguments have not prevailed,” said Moose, who promised to bring legal action against DOGE, which he said “has broken into our building.”

I’m not looking forward to a week of mainstream liberals decrying all violence in any forms when… Gaza & Ukraine are right there. And I personally fully support our funding of Ukraine and fully condemn our support of Israel. Not to mention we have a long history of FBI & CIA assassinations.
The cognitive dissonance of “war is over here in this little box and the violence from war is acceptable” and “outside of war all violence is bad” breaks my brain a bit.
A quick reminder that law enforcement *responds* to crime, but a living wage, food and water security, accessible healthcare, and public education *prevent* crime.
If you want safer communities, invest in people, not punishments.
I've been struggling with this myself, so I thought I'd repeat it for other people that might be dealing with the same thing:
Not every hobby needs to be a project. Not everything needs to be a whole *thing* with a goal and an endpoint. It's okay to not finish something. It's okay to pick up something for a bit, explore it, start making something, and then drop it without making any "progress".
Productivity is capitalist bullshit that doesn't need to infect your free time too. Have some fun
