A reminder about why folks like me remain so frustrated (stuff you probably know):
For many (most?), criminal justice looks like this: 1) police/prosecutor decides someone is criminal. 2) They ruin his/her life. No judge or jury needed. Protection from this requires $ and time. Lots of both.
Watching powerful people evade accountability for obvious crimes carries a special pain for us.

Some things becoming clear:
1) Mastodon is the ‘serious’ platform for folks who don’t mind working at it a bit. De-centralized so can’t be high jacked be an oligarch.
2) Post is the user-friendly, upstart alternative, geared for casual users.
3) Twitter is legacy. Still relevant, but compromised and corrupt.

Twitter suspends Mastodon account, prevents sharing links

On Dec 16, Twitter suspended our @joinmastodon account after we shared a link to the newly registered Mastodon account of @ElonJet, an account that broadcasts public flight path data of Elon Musk’s private jet, which was previously suspended from Twitter itself. At the same time, accounts of multiple journalists from major publications such as CNN, The New York Times, The Washington Post, as well as various independent journalists, were likewise suspended for either linking to the account itself or talking about the event.

@WalterShaub So now, the consensus of the GOP is that it’s OK to elect a tax cheat as POTUS. Am I wrong?
@georgetakei
I’m tolerant of the corp ad folks. After all - that’s what paid for Star Trek, right? The billionaire oligarchy is a different thing and very dangerous.

An academic friend asked for help joining Mastodon. I wrote a detailed email in response that I thought it might be useful to others. I’m also going to teach a master class in Mastodon at my school…
