I did not expect to catch any cool sky lights being in densely populated Silicon Valley, but through the magic of long exposure...

The heart of my tradition... Merry Christmas to all who celebrate!

There was a notable solar prominence to see in addition to the eclipse! It's the fuzzy blob extending from the sun's surface at the bottom right - but that blob is probably 5-10 times the size of the planet Earth. This shot (again a screenshot from a video) was taken through a hydrogen-alpha filter on a dedicated solar telescope. #eclipse #eclipse2023 #AnnularEclipse2023
Sun! Moon! Sunspots!

Some people from the local astronomy clubs had telescopes set up with solar filters, and I caught this shot through one of them, a Celestron 10" Dobsonian reflector, about an hour after annularity, This is actually a screenshot from a video - one of the volunteers shared the tip that when using a smartphone camera with a telescope, it's easier to record a video and grab a good frame from it in postprocessing than to try to hold the phone in just the right spot while clicking a shutter. (I'm sure they'll never see this, but thanks Angele for the tip and Emily and Michael for the use of the telescope!)

I think I found my official eclipse-hunting outfit
When one #eclipse isn't enough 😛

(anything with a small hole makes a great impromptu eclipse viewer)
Got a great view of the ring! The weather in Klamath Falls turned out to be nearly perfect

The colors lined up for this nice view of my office on one of the rare days we see clouds in the south SF Bay Area. (rotated and slightly color-corrected)
