In case you missed it:

⚠️ SHUTDOWN NOTICE:

dataplatform.social will be shut down on March 31st. Before that date, you can migrate your account to a different server.

SHUTDOWN NOTICE: I'm planning on decommissioning the dataplatform.social server on March 31.

The server currently has less than 30 active users (with activity in the last month) and even though I've cost-optimized the operation, it still comes down to a relatively large amount of money per account.

Add to that the work of staying on top of patches, and it's just not worth the effort for me.

The good news is: there's a simple, straight-forward way to migrate your account to a new server:

1/3

⚠️ The migration steps won't work after the dataplatform.social server is decommissioned, so make sure to do that before March 31st.

3/3

To migrate your dataplatform.social account to another server, and bring along your followers and followed handles,

* Create a new account on another server
* On the new account, Preferences → Account → Moving from a different account → Create alias
* On the dataplatform.social account, Preferences → Account → Move to a different account → Add your new handle → Move followers
* Export your following list, Settings → Import&Export → Export
* Import the CSV on the new account

@SQLAllFather I have no idea what you’re talking about, and I would like to subscribe to your newsletter please.
@SQLAllFather no lies detected.

I wish #SQLServer had the COMMENT ON command to add descriptions/comments on database objects. It's pretty common on other RDBMS platforms. So I wrote a wrapper proc for you all to emulate it, and to make the syntax easier.

Go forth and document those database objects:

The SQL Server 2025 public preview is here!

I wrote a blog post summarizing my first impressions of the JSON datatype and the brand-new JSON index.

TL;DR: it's looking very promising.
