Usually Superb Owl Sunday is a good day for shopping and going out to eat, because so many people really seem to enjoy watching that Owl on tv.

This year though, the event is in a town a few miles from us. I'm not sure what to expect in terms of traffic and how crowded things will be.

So, Network States are trying to be Galt's Gulch from Atlas Shrugged, is that right?

Their goal is to build a hideaway for über-competent rich people while civilization fails everywhere else?

They will sip chardonnay and watch the world burn?

Yeah, I really screwed up in my selection of an ACA plan Oct 1.

Not only does it cost $2400/month (and rising to $5800/month next year):
- it has denied most claims either for the facility or provider or lab tech, though I had checked as best I could.
- it covers our main prescription as Tier 4, where our prior insurance was Tier 2, about $650/month.
- though it is the same provider as our previous insurance, those prior authorizations no longer apply. All of them have been denied now.

"Two wrongs don't make a right !" decry those who have already committed the first wrong.
Every segment of this job posting took an unexpected turn and left me with even more questions.

Your ancestor might not have inherited citizenship from a German mother prior to 1975. There is a declaration process called Staatsangehörigkeit § 5 to address this gender discriminatory policy, allowing descendants of German mothers to declare their citizenship.

If you've wondered whether there is a path to Europe for your family, this week is a good week to look into it.

Everything I've written about this process and related matters is linked from https://codingrelic.geekhold.com/2025/08/survey-of-my-germany-related-blog-posts.html

If your family emigrated from Germany in the 20th century you might have a path to German citizenship, with grandparents, great-grandparents, etc all possible. 1904 is the significant cutoff, emigration before that almost always forfeited German citizenship.

Your ancestor might have been told they had to choose one citizenship at age 18 or 21 or 23. That is a longstanding myth, people born dual citizens were always able to retain both and pass it on to their children.

This coming week is special. Most of Europe adjusted DST clocks this morning, the US is next week.

German Consulates around the world add new appointments at midnight *in Germany*. Polling right before midnight has the best chance of grabbing one, and midnight in Germany is at a different time from the US this week.

If you've idly wondered whether there is a path to Europe for your family, this is a good week to look into it.

Q: What do you call an iPad when you run engineering calculations on it?

A: jPad.
We are alarmed by reports that Germany is on the verge of a catastrophic about-face, reversing its longstanding and principled opposition to the EU’s Chat Control proposal which, if passed, could spell the end of the right to privacy in Europe. https://signal.org/blog/pdfs/germany-chat-control.pdf
