#writing and #machine_learning - My experiments have been going well and I am moving on to the next phase. In the interim, I have realized that ML models like GPT-3 will have a weird influence on finding your next book. Imagine instead of a web app like Good Reads, you can ask GPT "Will I like this book?" and get an authoritative answer. Would that be a good thing, would it bring out more readers or cull the existing reading population further?
It recently struck me that 27 years ago there was a movie with Patrick Swayze, Wesley Snipes, and John Leguizamo playing drag queens, and if it came out today, someone would firebomb the theaters it was in. A couple years of misery due to a rail strike would have paid dividends for making the American oligarchs back off.
The House Ways and Means Committee first requested former president Trump’s tax returns in early 2019. The Supreme Court just rejected what is the last possible request to prevent those returns from being provided to the committee. There are 40-some days left in the 117th Congress. Will they actually get them? Have time to analyze them? Release any part to the public? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Might have been better to make that request in, say, early 2018 if the goal was to actually do anything with them.
