DistroSea is a Linux resource I didn't know. It lets you try out in a browser combinations of over 80 distros and 500 versions. This article introduces the use of DistroSea.

Honestly, using #Phanpy feels a lot like using the #Mastodon web UI if it had been in 2 years of additional development. Lots of stuff people have been asking for, beautifully implemented.

Give it a try if:
- you've been overwhelmed by a reply thread on Mastodon because it's all just a big flat mess
- you'd like to see quoted posts actually unwrapped
- you'd like to see threads as threads
- you'd like to see notifications bundled

And yeah, it's all open source.

We’re opening US pre-orders of Framework Laptop 12 on April 10th at 9am PT. DIY Edition starts at $549 and is available in five colorways: Black, Gray, Lavender, Bubblegum, and Sage. If you prefer not to assemble your laptop, we also have pre-built options in Black, starting at $799. We reserved manufacturing capacity to be able to ship US pre-orders alongside existing pre-order batches, which means first shipments are in June. You can check out the full specs on our website while you wait!
@kev Forgot to add: The physical kill switches for the webcam + mic are nice, I wish more laptops had them. The webcam is good. Also, I got the DIY edition which is cheaper.

@kev I get around 4–6h of battery life which is good enough for me. These helped: I run auto-cpufreq on Linux, I chose a Core i5 CPU instead of an i7, an SK Hynix Gold SSD (known for power efficiency, 2TB). I also chose all USB-C expansion cards (I read somewhere that USB-A caused some drain, I believe that’s been fixed)

Everything is fast and snappy, If you’re moving from macOS, GNOME 48 is really polished & gorgeous, and you should feel at home.

@kev In the first few months, I had a few issues with Gnome freezing at times — went away quickly with kernel updates. The speakers were not too loud earlier but are plenty loud now (kernel/firmware updates). Sleep has not been an issue (I update my Linux frequently)

I’ve had one issue: some of the plastic in the charger cable has been peeling off. This was a known issue in that batch, and I’ve read in their forums that they were doing free replacements.

@kev I have a Framework Laptop 13 (12th Gen) that I've been using as my main personal daily driver for the last 2.5 years, and I love it :) (I've been using Macbooks for more than 15 years before this).

The 3:2 screen ratio grows on you pretty quickly. The keyboard is better than the Macbooks in my opinion (compared to my M2 Macbook from work). The screen is of a very good quality, and bright.

I run Arch Linux on it as my main OS (it dual boots Win11). 32G RAM, 2TB SSD

People who confuse entomology and etymology bug me in ways I can't put into words.
