@deegee I am increasingly uninterested in forming theories about what people (apart from people I know/care about) believe or think.

@deegee I am no longer doing phil mind, but i am definitely of a more behaviorist/functional behaviorist tilt now than I was then.

We infer what a person believes based upon what they are disposed to assert, or do. The world has developed so that the connection between beliefs, rationality, and epistemic justification seems so much looser than those things seemed to me then.

The connection was always not necessary, but is now obviously contingent.

I'm not even going to link to the crappy interview, because no journalist who doesn't ask a followup about either antisemitism, or racism isn't worth their salt.

Racist too, yes, and white supremacist. But it's clear that the antisemitism is what ties those things together in a the mind of a Christian Nationalist like Pompeo.

Who corrupts the children? The Jew. Who is the puppeteer of the rebellion against white power? The Jew.

It's not even beneath the surface, it's right there. You don't have to squint to notice it, you have to squint not to.

Mike Pompeo thinks Randi Weingarten is the most dangerous person in the world. I don't see any way a person comes to have that view without being deeply antisemitc.

(For those who don't know, Randi Weingarten is the President of the United Federation of Teachers.)

@deegee @LaraFriedmanDC

i wonder who wrote it, because I doubt it was him.

@LaraFriedmanDC

Here's another implication he is making: Israel is a state for Good Jews, not all Jews. That implication is directed at (Jewish) political enemies within Israel.

I think that says a lot about the direction of democracy in the so-called Jewish state.

None of this is new. His father made it explicit years ago when he called Israeli Jews helping Isareli Arabs get to the polls a national security emergency.

For folks who aren’t following the birdsite, yesterday the son of the prime minister of Israel argued in a 4-part thread that, in effect, Kanye & friends are 100% right to stereotype & hate bad Jews (= “liberals”, “globalists”) — but that they shouldn’t stereotype & hate all Jews because some Jews - like the Netanyahus - are good (“conservatives”, “patriots”) who share the same values as Kanye & friends.

@deegee

the notion that the following can't all coeherently describe one person is false:

(i) he is motivated by antisemitism
(ii) he is jewish
(iii) he is mentally ill

I don't think the any of the three descriptions, on their face, make logical contact unless the operational definition of a mental ilness happens to include being motivated by bigotry.

@deegee

People who deny this imply that there is a special kind of irrationality indicated when, for example, a Jew expresses antisemitism that isn't also indicated when a non-Jew expresses antisemitism.

I think those who deny the conjecture are either wrong about the nature of bigotry. I mean, imagine finding some expressions of bigotry more rational (or indicating less irrationality) than other expressions depending upon who expresses them!
