@somuchpingle This has been bugging me for a while, but I've always felt too sheepish to say anything. Until now, I guess...
I believe this is R. uakarii, not R. varabilis...

Some friends and I sent Nowruz greetings to Niloufar Bayani this past week. We were all friends together in undergrad and now she's a political prisoner of the Iranian government.
We send the Nowruz cards to let her know we're thinking of her, as well as to let the Iranian government know we see them and their inability to fairly administer justice.
Instructions for sending a Nowruz greeting to Nilou (and others unjustly imprisoned in Iran) are here: https://www.amnestyusa.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/Nowruz-action-2023.pdf
You can help advocate for her by:
1. Boosting/reposting the story with the hashtags below.
2. Circulating this post to your networks.
3. Reaching out to us here or via DM if you want to get involved. We are planning a Norwuz action for March.

My friend Niloufar Bayani, a scientist working in ecology & conservation, was baselessly arrested in Iran. She's now been imprisoned for FIVE YEARS.
I, along with some of our mutual friends from McGill University, wrote an article about Nilou to advocate for her immediate release. Nilou has been caged for far too long, for NOTHING.
January 24 marked the fifth anniversary of the detainment of eight Iranian scientists, among them our dear friend and McGill alumnus, Niloufar Bayani. Though the details are murky, we understand that the scientists were arrested on January 24 and 25, 2018 by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps. They were accused of espionage, while performing conservation… Read More »Five Years Later, McGill Alum Niloufar Bayani Remains Detained in Iran
It's been five years that my friend Nilou's been incarcerated. Five YEARS. I can't fathom it. She was such a free spirit; imagining her caged, it's horrible. She did nothing except try to help nature in her own country, #Iran. She deserves freedom. #NiloufarBayani
I wrote more about #Nilou and what she did to get arrested (spoiler: conservation research) here: http://danielhoops.com/blog/2019/10/4/a-friend-incarcerated and here: http://danielhoops.com/blog/2020/5/11/a-brief-update-regarding-niloufar-bayani
