@pluralistic as the interest rate on my credit cards nears 30%, I’m less concerned with the price of bread than with the price of the credit I use to buy it.

In a world ruled Big Entertainment and #BigTech, giving artists more #copyright is like giving bullied kids more lunch money - no matter how much lunch money you hand out, the kids are still going hungry. We have to neutralize the bully:

Have You Tried Turning It Off and On Again: Rethinking Tech Regulation and Creative Labor

The Internet Copyright Wars are in their third decade, and despite the billions of dollars and trillions of phosphors spilled on its battlegrounds around the world, precious little progress has been made. A quarter of a century after Napster’s founding, we’re still haunted by the same false binaries that have deadlocked us since the era of 56k modem

@urbandata are we sure that Reuters got the memo? Obviously dialysis is the best option because it contributes the most to GDP and the HMO.

The thing I hate about Twitter, is that it was, and is, used by journalists to form a consensus. Not only was it a sort of circle jerk of stories about posts on Twitter leading to posts on Twitter about stories about posts on Twitter, but that the various controversies and pile-ons and ten-minute-hates were, and are, the shaping of ā€œpublic opinionā€ā€”that is, the opinions of journalists—in real time, observable outside the editorial conference room. Why is that needed?
@ehattswank @pluralistic yet another solution in search of a problem from people with too much money and not enough to do

Today is the 50th anniversary of the last time humans went to the Moon.

Apollo 17, the final mission of the Apollo program and the last time we ventured beyond low Earth orbit, launched from Kennedy Space Center #OTD in 1972.

@selzero @intelwire that rather sad.
This is not a joke: San Francisco Police want to arm robots for use against the public. You can help stop them. https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2022/11/red-alert-sfpd-want-power-kill-robots
Red Alert: The SFPD Want the Power to Kill with Robots

The San Francisco Board of Supervisors will vote soon on a policy that would allow the San Francisco Police Department to use deadly force by arming its many robots. This is a spectacularly dangerous idea and EFF’s stance is clear: police should not arm robots.TAKE ACTIONEMAIL YOUR SUPERVISOR: don'...

@xian I heard a similar usage in a sermon last Sunday, but in that case ā€œinterrogateā€ was used where ā€œchallengeā€ was meant.
