G’day👋🏻 I’m Curtis, he/him, living on Wurundjeri land; Melbourne.
I’m humanist, and interested in helping people develop fulfilling lives through their careers. Other forms of social media have been antithetical to this, so this is my first toe-dip into the social media pool. Anyway, hopefully my engagement here over time is of value.
I also enjoy designing and building timber furniture (Mid-century Modern) in my spare time.
@[email protected] if you could change one thing, and one thing only, about American Politics, what would it be?
@VoicesofWentworth
I see your point, particularly in light of political campaign funding.
@VoicesofWentworth I’ve been thinking about this too, but isn’t it possible or even preferable to have other (small c) coalitions?
Or, a hung parliament…. Just thinking about the quantity of legislation that passed under the Gillard government… https://www.theguardian.com/news/datablog/2013/jun/28/australia-productive-prime-minister
Was Julia Gillard the most productive prime minister in Australia's history?

We measure the legislative output of all of Australia's governments and prime ministers

@anne_twain I agree with your sentiments, I really do. But IMHO I think ‘capitalism’ is just a scapegoat. Unchecked consumerism is certainly problematic, but not specifically the ownership over the means of production in an economy (capitalism). Surely using a market based economy along with proper regulation like a carbon tax (and plastic tax!) is the best way to incentivise and overcome our challenges?
Wishing homo sapiens weren’t greedy is a good argument for better regulation
@feather1952 respectfully, if I had to choose between introducing a wealth tax or stopping political donations (except for perhaps an annual $100 cap per human individual) I’d choose the later every time.
Funny enough, if we got rid of political donations, and a wealth tax was in the interest of the majority, we’d likely get that anyway.
Thoughts? :-)

Thank you Dr. King for inspiring many generations of young activists. On this #MLKDay, I encourage us all to listen to the Black community, uplift their voices, celebrate their achievements, and lend support in the ongoing fight for racial justice and equality.

@SpockResists oh dear, off to a rough start, haha!
Well, you don’t sound like someone that needs to read more, so please don’t take it as a personal recommendation for you. I just think it’s a useful book in general.
@blooming_rose going well thank you.
Hope you’re holding up :-)
@SpockResists
Have you read Jonathan Haidt’s book, The Righteous Mind; ‘Why Good People Are Divided by Politics and Religion’ ? IMHO, It’s well worth a read and explains all of this really well.
Would be great to hear your thoughts if you have read it.
@queenoliviastr We need more AI 🤭 brilliant.
