Independent journalist, ham radio operator, maker.
Association Manager (AM) for Summits on the Air (SOTA) Portugal and president of Associação de Radioamadores de Entre Tâmega e Douro (ARETD) radio club.

This past Sunday (May, 25th), I took off early in the AM towards Bentozelos, CT/TM-025, one of my favourite locations for a spring activation, hoping to film the usually colourful landscape of blooming gorse, heather and broom plants. It´s a 50/50 walk, in the effort department, with the first 2,5 km an easy walk on a wide dirt road and the remaining a hearty climb, under the sun.

A Quest for Color - SOTA Portugal

This past weekend was full of activity, starting with representing SOTA CT at the REP (Rede de Emissores Portugueses) Ham Fair in charming Seixal, near Lisbon. It was fantastic to reconnect with familiar faces, meet new enthusiasts, and plan for exciting future projects. Big thanks to the CTFF (WWFF) team and REP for sharing the space and the energy!
On the way back, I tackled some long-awaited summits: CT/BL-002 (Alto do Trevim), CT/BB-007 (Santo António da Neve), and CT/BL-027 (Chãs).
@kn4ntu thank you! And yes, the KX3 is an awesome radio, still surprises me with is RX capabilities.
A stroll through the woods, on Sunday, for a bit of exercise and a SOTA activation. Blessed with sunny wx all the way up, with clouds finally riding in once I set up station. Typical for this time of the year…

Returned to the hills for some SOTA action, this past weekend, in the good company of Rui, CT7ALW. Activated CT/MN-004 and CT/MN-044, without much fuss. On the first one, a nice doggo from the village showed us the way, but decided to switch to another team (hikers) when no food came his way. My new shinny orange HT was a major fail, on the other hand, easily overloaded.

NASA's switch to Linux in space was driven by reliability, flexibility, and security concerns. The International Space Station (ISS) originally relied on Windows, but astronauts frequently encountered crashes and instability. In 2013, NASA announced that all laptops on the ISS would transition to Debian, a Linux-based operating system, to improve stability and control over software.

This change wasn’t just about reliability. Windows was much more vulnerable to malware, and in 2007, a worm named W32.Gammima.AG spread to the ISS. With Linux, NASA gained the ability to modify and customize the system for mission-critical applications without depending on proprietary software. Today, Linux powers much of NASA’s space infrastructure, from ISS systems to Mars rovers and beyond.

And there it is, the last activation of 2024, on top of Seixa CT/TM-017. Really great sights and sounds, with all the ingredients: sun, fog, ice, sunset, ok propagation and good company on the airwaves. Made close to 50 contacts, mostly SSB and some digital modes, only on 10 meters.
Tnx all for the contacts and the company and tnx SOTA MT for the 10m challenge, I enjoyed this one very much.

@AF0AJ Your dad has good taste, I own one and it's, by far, one of the best HF radios out there, for the money.
Still reeling from three-day Summits on the Air Tour, plus a great ham fair, in Lisbon, this past weekend. Ready for more, in a couple of weeks.
