Where can I find more people to talk with about the future architecture of the Fediverse and how it can grow to become a viable alternative to big tech social media? I am thinking along the lines of comprehensive ecosystem planning, product ideation, governance, business models, and fundraising…and how they all fit together.
Boris MannI’ve found the BlueSky team to be very purposeful. It’s not run or owned by Jack, it’s not Jack’s thing, although he is on the board (it’s a Public Benefit Corporation in the US).
Jay Graber is the CEO & founder who fought for it to be independent of Twitter & calling it Jack’s thing erases her. It’s not great.
It’s another open protocol that makes different trade offs than ActivityPub.

I have a small number of BlueSky https://blueskyweb.xyz/ invite codes to hand out. It is an implementation of the #AtProtocol https://atproto.com/ for building decentralized social networking. Users own their #DID based accounts and can use their own domain name as a username, just by adding a DNS TXT record. Originally ‘The Landlord’s Game,’ it was designed as a protest against the big monopolists like Carnegie & Rockefeller.
But it was Charles Darrow, an unemployed salesman, who eventually sold it to Parker Brothers after playing a version.
Parker Brothers credited Monopoly with saving their company. Magie died in 1948 without recognition. Darrow became very wealthy & his legend lives on. #history #women #HistoryRemix

@aral I just read your article "Is the fediverse about to get Fryed?" and agree that single user instances would be a massive Fediverse improvement. What is it about Mastodon that incentivizes centralization? Does it cost a lot more to host 10,000 single user instances than it does to host a single instance with 10,000 accounts/users?

@dansup how is group/community development for the Fediverse going? Did you all ever form a group to discuss ensuring interop between various efforts?
I don't want a billionaire owning Twitter or any other important digital infrastructure. I also don't want to see Google and Apple be the gatekeepers to the vast majority of apps. I find the notion that Google and Apple could remove the Twitter app from their app stores utterly reprehensible. We need digital infrastructure that is self-sovereign, free from billionaires AND big tech.
