Unable to focus. OK with that.

I decided to start using a field notes notebook for my favourite photos of the kids along with notes about the photos and I happened upon a vignette edition in my desk - I don’t recall who sent this to me but thank you because it’s perfect for this purpose 🙏

“My girls, sir, they didn't care for the Overlook at first. One of them actually stole a pack of matches, and tried to burn it down. But I ‘corrected’ them sir.”

Feeling untethered lately which means a return to working with my hands. I've been meaning to make a Field Notes sheath for a while. This is black MultiCam 1000D Cordura, sewn on our Juki machine. It fits two Field Notes and two pen/cils or three notebooks. Ultralight, low-bulk, super durable.

(and thanks to @jenschuetz and my mom for teaching me to sew years ago. I love being able to make little bags, wallets, passport holders, etc. when I need to, or repair things).

The weekend project was doing a real version of the Chicago-Style Pope. I hope we're all still excited about the pope.

I reorganised my Field Notes the other day 🌈
There is nothing good that comes from having a President of the United States who is gobsmackingly stupid, surrounded by obsequious courtiers and fellow morons. But the sooner we collectively acknowledge that truth, the sooner we can fix it.

I think every designer should write a love letter to a font at least once in their lifetime.

This is mine: A 150-year-old font you have likely never heard of, and one you probably saw earlier today.

Also, a great tip in this post: drag a bunch of folders or files to Archive Utility and you'll get a bunch of compressed archives, instead of one single “Archive.zip" file like you do in the Finder.

For your weekend listening: I had the pleasure of interviewing the ridiculously-talented Kelli Anderson about her upcoming book Alphabets in Motion” but we go DEEP about more than just type and design!
