This is where you add the link to mastodon, click on your profile, edit profile, put the link in "website"
If you have a Stackoverflow profile you can use it to easily verify yourself on Mastodon!
Just add the link to your Mastodon profile in the Stackoverflow website field, and vice versa. Done!
Do you know of other websites that add the proper rel=me tag so that it works out of the box? If you do, please reply!
ORCiD unfortunately doesn't yet, but the principle of verification still works if say a journalist wants to check authenticity.

This is wild: Patreon earnings of Mastodon have doubled in the past week.

OpenCollective earnings seem to have gone up even more.
Thanks everyone who chipped in, I recognize a lot of names (not stalking you, I was just trying to graph it and noticed the names).

And look - MIT already has a gated instance. Anyone who's on mastodon.mit.edu is verified to have an MIT email. Neat isn't it?

mastodon.mit.edu

An instance for the extended MIT community. Run by volunteers at SIPB, MIT's computer club. NOT run or endorsed by the MIT administration.

Woah - German government has got its own Mastodon instance and most of the ministries and many agencies already have accounts.
Verification problem at least partially solved - just need to check the domain is right!
I've also seen newspapers like theatlantic.com set up instances themselves. Looks like verification will be worked out sooner or later.

It's great that mastodon is open source, that there's a changelog, you can open issues etc. We can see which way it's going!
For example I've seen people ask about automatic translations, well, it's coming!
Also discovered that the EU has indirectly funded part of the development. Nice!

@happykhan I've noticed that images load slowly, I guess that's because there's some bottleneck somewhere.
How do images from other instances load? Do I make a CORS request for that or does it come through mstnd.science? And where's the bottleneck?
Other instance -> out -> in -> mstdn.science -> out -> me
Your header only loaded after like a minute on your page :D
