There is a state election in NSW in the next couple of months. I hope voters remember the following points.
1. Both Gladys #Berejiklian and John #Barilaro (former Premier and Deputy Premier for the #Coalition) openly admitted in NSW parliament to pork-barrelling. The former tried to minimise it by saying everyone does it. The latter tried to joke about it ("Call me Porkbarilaro").
2. Both Berejiklian and Barilaro subsequently resigned, facing various accusations of corruption, both continue to be under investigation to this day.
3. NSW's Independent Commission Against Corruption (#ICAC) subsequently confirmed in a public statement that it considers pork-barrelling (a.k.a. the misuse of public funds for partisan ends) a form of #corruption.
4. All the funds allocated under programs accused of pork-barrelling under these two would have had to be signed off by the Treasurer of the day.
5. His name is Dominic #Perrottet.
Early on the morning of February 18, 2017, staff of then Human Services minister Alan Tudge saw the front page of The Saturday Paper, dedicated to a story about the death of Rhys Cauzzo, who killed himself after being hounded by Centrelink debt collectors. They immediately went on the offensive.
A national tragedy. An Australian is now dying of COVID every 25 minutes. Even worse than last week as the numbers are updated after delayed reporting
1,586 deaths reported in the 1st 27 days of 2023. That’s more than in the whole of 2021. That’s 59 reported deaths a day 1/n
The SMH reports today that there’s been an increase in applications for pokies to be able to be played between midnight & 4am. The evidence tells us this is the worst time for problem gamblers.
Councillor Pauline Lockie - Inner West Council and I called for poker machines to be shut down between midnight and 6am in our motion to Inner West Council last month but this and other evidence based reforms were rejected by Labor Councillors.
Chris Minns & NSW Labor should show some strength of character & stand up to Clubs NSW and the RSL & Services Clubs Association. The community wants reform and the Greens have pointed the way here: Cate Faehrman.org/pokies

@copingwithsuicide @fixatedpersonsunit @Mariewalsh18 @AusSocialMods Hello, strictly it means “content warning” and technically it’s a label that then puts a subject line on your post, and hides the post itself behind a pane, one click to reveal.
That enables people to organise their attention a bit. Some people use it around topics (phobias, graphic images etc) that readers need not to meet accidentally. Some use it around topics (party politics especially) so people can choose to read or skip.
I use it for long posts, things that might trigger phobias or struggle (alcohol, food pictures) and some broad topics. I’m not here to shock, that’s my rule of thumb.
There have also been important questions asked about whether a label culture also asks people to hide the realities of their experience, especially in relation to race. This led to some good refining of the guidance.
You can see how CW works here. I added a CW for length and topic.
