@copingwithsuicide @fixatedpersonsunit @Mariewalsh18 @AusSocialMods Hello, strictly it means “content warning” and technically it’s a label that then puts a subject line on your post, and hides the post itself behind a pane, one click to reveal.
That enables people to organise their attention a bit. Some people use it around topics (phobias, graphic images etc) that readers need not to meet accidentally. Some use it around topics (party politics especially) so people can choose to read or skip.
I use it for long posts, things that might trigger phobias or struggle (alcohol, food pictures) and some broad topics. I’m not here to shock, that’s my rule of thumb.
There have also been important questions asked about whether a label culture also asks people to hide the realities of their experience, especially in relation to race. This led to some good refining of the guidance.
