As many of you know I've been doing part time independent contracting for a few years now. But I got a bit too comfy and have only had a single client for awhile and they just let me know that they're going to be cutting my hours.

So, if you need a 30+ plus years of C, golang, python, etc developer, an OP/Admin with 20+ years of Linux/BSD administration, and/or 20+ years of Open Source project maintainership, please reach out!!

If you are working on Fediverse software, I highly recommend applying for the NLNet Open Social fund. They have 480K euros to apply to ActivityPub software. The deadline is March 31st.

A few years ago I designed a way to detect bit-flips in Firefox crash reports and last year we deployed an actual memory tester that runs on user machines after the browser crashes. Today I was looking at the data that comes out of these tests and now I'm 100% positive that the heuristic is sound and a lot of the crashes we see are from users with bad memory or similarly flaky hardware. Here's a few numbers to give you an idea of how large the problem is. 🧡 1/5

The blast radius of a toxic contributor in an open source project is mostly invisible.

If you're a community leader you need to understand that for every prominent developer loudly driven out there were hundreds, maybe thousands of people who could have done great work, who could have been your next generation, looking at how your people treat people, at the bar your community has set for decency or dignity, silently taking their talents elsewhere, that you didn't see.

After a 10-year hiatus, I’m back to using RSS to follow news and blogs. It feels so calm and decluttered ☺️

But the fear of missing out is real! What blogs would you recommend for someone interested in

✊ Digital rights, activism & privacy
🌱 Offline-first and local computing
πŸ’» General tech trends
πŸ› οΈ Hacking devices to improve them
πŸ₯° Mental health & work-life balance
πŸ™Œ Good news

I would be grateful if you boosted this to help me discover more blogs!

Also, some of the most productive developers I know produce very few commits either because they mostly help other people, or because their commits are finely-honed things of beauty that prevent the need for hundreds of later bug-fix commits.
