I serve on the sound desk at church, and have an interest in live audio engineering.
I'm also enthusiastic about technology and retro stuff. I'm always reading about 5 books at once.

I keep seeing various daily bible devotions using The Message in the place of actual scripture for the bible reading. I'm not a KJV-only type, but Eugene Peterson's paraphrase,/commentary is not a substitute for a genuine translation, and I'm sure he didn't intend it to be used this way either.

"And God has appointed in the church first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, helping, administrating, and various kinds of tongues." 1 cor 12:28

Why is it that nobody wants to be sound engineer but so many desire to be worship leader? And then even half of the sound engineers are actually frustrated musicians.

"the new guidelines would allow priests to bless relationships still considered sinful."

NY Times has a quote:
"It also stressed that it was not blessing the relationship,"

I'm sorry Mr Pope, you cannot have it both ways. you cannot bless what is also considered sinful. And it clearly is blessing the relationship, or else what is it?

There was a lot of Anglicans who made quite a bit of noise and even suggested moving over to the Catholic church over same sex blessings. I wonder what will become of them?

Pope says Roman Catholic priests can bless same-sex couples

Announcing the change, the Vatican emphasised that it continues to view marriage as between a man and a woman.

Hello @ameredith , i noticed this instance is running an older mastodon version. Apparently important security fixes have been released since 4.1.6
I'm a spirit-filled Christian. Why do I feel an uneasy sickness when i see a clip of Steven Furtick on youtube? Is it the constant shouting? Is it the ego and arrogant swagger? Is it the fact that he dresses like a magician that gives me the creeps? I don't think its those things. Is it spiritual discernment? I don't know , but maybe time will tell.
31st October is #reformation day! On this day in 1517, Martin Luther nailed the Ninety-five Theses to the door of All Saints' Church in Wittenberg, kick-starting the reformation. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reformation_Day

I read articles like this and am reminded that although we speak a similar language, US culture is vastly different from British culture. The second thing is that I am not surprised that people are losing their faith if the wider #christian culture is adding so many rules ("you must homeschool!") on top of following Jesus. In this country, homeschooling is seen as weird.

Christian home-schoolers revolt by enrolling kids in public school

They were taught that public schools are evil. Then a Virginia couple defied their families and enrolled their kids.

Martyn Lloyd-Jones preached 232 #sermons over 8 years on Ephesians. I recently started the journey (16 sermons so far) and I'm thoroughly enjoying it. I got an ESV journalling book of Ephesians which includes plenty of blank pages for notes. I'll need them.

Dear guitarists, please carry a spare 9v battery in your #guitar case.
Thanks,
the #church sound tech guy.

The Merneptah Stele is largely an account of Merneptah's victory over the ancient Libyans and their allies, but the last three of the 28 lines deal with a separate campaign in Canaan, then part of Egypt's imperial possessions. Israel is explicitly mentioned.

It was discovered by Flinders Petrie and currently stands in the Egyptian Museum, Cairo. If I ever visit I will make a point of seeing this item.
