Huh, no wonder my #xmpp account here wouldn't log in. β€‹

Time to find a different xmpp server...

Hello from PowerFox on Mac OS X Tiger on the Power Mac G4 MDD! β€‹

It's quite slow on this Mac, TBH, but I think it might be the lack of enough RAM and that this version is beta software. Still, it's nice to be able to browser the modern web on this Mac. β€‹

Since Mac OS X isn't allowed for MARCHintosh posts, I've removed the hashtag from the previous post and left it out on this one.

OK, so the Sawtooth G4 has been put away and I've pulled out the Power Macintosh G4 MDD, with dual 867 MHz PowerPC G4 7455 CPUs. This one belonged to my dad, so I know that it works, but I wanted to make sure since it had been a while since it was turned on, and thankfully, it still does. Specs below and in the screenshots.

This is running Mac OS X "Tiger" and was also able to load my Netatalk share from the FreeBSD desktop PC next to it. β€‹

I've also connected the Jaz drive to it and want to see if it can get it to detect the drive and mount it. β€‹

Welp, I think my #MARCHintosh antics with the StarMax have been more than successful. Time to put the SiniStarMax back to rest and pull out the Power Macintosh G4 "Sawtooth." I've got everything that was connected to the StarMax connected to the Sawtooth, with the ADB keyboard and PS/2 mouse replaced with USB ones.

The only unfortunate thing now, and I had forgotten about this until I connected it, is that it won't boot. I'm hoping it's because I pulled the PRAM battery to prevent it from leaking, but my main worry is that the PSU on it is dead. Curious is anyone involved in MARCHintosh knows if this should boot even without a PRAM battery. Replies on the topic welcome! β€‹

Now, the SiniStarMax's desktop is looking sharp. β€‹ #MARCHintosh

OK, so the next thing I tried on the StarMax was to see if this old Iomega Jaz drive of mine still worked. I had backed up files a LONG time ago to one of these Jaz drives and was hoping to load it and back everything up to my FreeBSD Netatalk share. After downloading the IomegaWare software, I was able to successfully mount the Jaz drive and move all of its contents over to the Netatalk share. I even found a backup of my old family blog from the early aughts! β€‹

BTW, the screenshots were taken natively in Mac OS, but I used ffmpeg to convert the PICT files to .JPG since I didn't have ImageMagick installed, but it worked as you can see. β€‹
