*ZOMBIE*tron*ZOMBIE*tron*

When: Saturday 6 & Sunday 7/12/2025
Where: Constant Studio Brussels

Constant invites the excellent @clararigo for tinkering with DIY sensors and Zombitron running on old smartphones to make music together.
We will work on two levels
– code: programming esp32’s to interact with Zombitron ( via the network and the browsers of the phones)
– tinkering: make and finetune DIY sensors, like experimental buttons, to be able to connect to Zombitron

MIMTEndO is a musical instrument made from a combination of obsolete smartphones. It is part of a research project aimed at exploring how, by combining several old and broken devices and using high-level web technologies, it is possible to create new interactive interfaces in order to extend their lifespan.

I am also super happy to bring this trophy home here in Centrale lyon and #LIRIS and to the @limitesnumeriques team :)

Bellow is a small description of the project. I was busy correcting a few last bugs and soldering the last pieces last week, but now I will take the time to make a nice video to show you how it works.

Last week I was in Paris for the Web Audio Conference to present my new prototype called MIMTEndO (as in Musical Instrument Made To End Obsolescence).

The jury honored me by awarding me the prize for best demo :)

Thank you to the Web Audio Conference, #IRCAM and #Mozilla for encouraging this work and to everyone who was so kind and curious about this weird little green box made of waste!

My article "Zombitron: towards a toolbox for repurposing obsolete smartphones into new interactive systems" is out !

I present a high-level approach aimed at encouraging the practice of repurposing obsolete smartphones in the design of interactive systems, despite their complexity and heterogeneity. I discuss how such a tool can be integrated into creative practices and in particular into the design of music controllers.

It will be presented Thursday at #LIMITS2025

The program is up for #limits2025 - come join us June 26-27 for a planetary discussion on (rethinking) computing within planetary boundaries. Join from wherever you are or at one of the 14 hubs across the world. Please register (free).

LIMITS 2025 -- Workshop on Computing within Limits

Demain je serai à la Générale pour vous raconter l'avancée de mes travaux.

5 - (MISC) I am listening to this album while writing this [https://tutoriel.bandcamp.com/album/pelican-school], I saw them live in paris last week with their project Elastic system, they are great ! Art Of Noise / Liquid Liquid / Krautlol vibes if I should describe it but I'm very bad at music genres. They also have a remake of Ode to Joy that's almost equally good than the one of the ending OST of the (one of my fav) movie Tokyo Godfathers.
