*ZOMBIE*tron*ZOMBIE*tron*

When: Saturday 6 & Sunday 7/12/2025
Where: Constant Studio Brussels

Constant invites the excellent @clararigo for tinkering with DIY sensors and Zombitron running on old smartphones to make music together.
We will work on two levels
– code: programming esp32’s to interact with Zombitron ( via the network and the browsers of the phones)
– tinkering: make and finetune DIY sensors, like experimental buttons, to be able to connect to Zombitron

MIMTEndO is a musical instrument made from a combination of obsolete smartphones. It is part of a research project aimed at exploring how, by combining several old and broken devices and using high-level web technologies, it is possible to create new interactive interfaces in order to extend their lifespan.

I am also super happy to bring this trophy home here in Centrale lyon and #LIRIS and to the @limitesnumeriques team :)

Bellow is a small description of the project. I was busy correcting a few last bugs and soldering the last pieces last week, but now I will take the time to make a nice video to show you how it works.

Last week I was in Paris for the Web Audio Conference to present my new prototype called MIMTEndO (as in Musical Instrument Made To End Obsolescence).

The jury honored me by awarding me the prize for best demo :)

Thank you to the Web Audio Conference, #IRCAM and #Mozilla for encouraging this work and to everyone who was so kind and curious about this weird little green box made of waste!

@frox
I had never try Pandoc it's great ! The HTML is here > https://www.clararigaud.fr/zombitronpaper/

However we lost all the citations I will work on that later :)
Thank you for the suggestion.

Zombitron: towards a toolbox for repurposing obsolete smartphones into new interactive systems

@frox oh no not yet unforunately. ( I have the uncompiled Latex version if you want but I'm not sure it's better :) )

@aurelien @rra @marieverdeil

The best way is to make sure that it's not locked or try to find the previous owner :) (same strategy than the people in Shenzen in the article sent by Aurelien)

But this is a real (and frustrating) problem ! It could be great to have at least a way to contact the previous owners via their google account since that information is still inside the phone.

Unfortunately no solution either, I spent some time trying to bypass FRP on two Android phones I have that are blocked, watching some videos of breaches exploitations (by changing keyboard language / using accessibility tools to access the parameters, things like that). It works on some android versions but you have a good chance that the breach has been patched...
