I’m an award winning investigative #datajournalist with more than a decade's experience of using #data skills to dig out data, find stories, and create #visualisations.

I've grappled with thousands of #spreadsheets and #datasets in search of stories. Then found lots of quicker techniques and formulas to speed that up.

I am also an enthusiastic sender of #FreedomOfInformation requests. I've doggedly pursued access to #FOI information I need, up to winning against the ICO in court.

Complain to the ICO about your overdue Freedom of Information request! Because it actually works. A man who waited four years to get an answer to a Freedom of Information request from his local council described the delay as a "lack of accountability". Kevin Robinson-Hale asked what he said was a "simple" set of questions

Another council's in trouble for #FOI delays.

But a busy FOI Friday suggests plenty of requests are getting answered:

Is there a world record for sending Freedom of Information requests? Crikey News wants to see how many requests it can make in a day - to try and get in before the Australian Government makes it harder to do. More locally, another council has been given an enforcement notice for poor FOI performance. This

This week’s #FOI Friday took so long, there’s now a new public body subject to the FOI Act.

This week's FOI Friday took so long, there's now a new public body subject to the Freedom of Information Act. Services run by Greater Anglia are the latest to transfer into public ownership (as of Sunday (October 12)). Which means it joins the growing list of rail operators you can make FOI requests about trains

If ‘the real value of FOI is in the pages of local newspapers’, this week is a bonanza

It's got a wheelie bin roll-out, a parking protest, rats in a pub, and, for once, speed cameras catching no one

A police body criticised for how it was applying Freedom of Information law has decided not to clean up its act. The National Police Chiefs’ Council’s (NPCC) central referral unit (CRU) first attracted attention for advising police forces not to reveal information on topics including the use of banned surveillance software and the spread of

Got views on the Freedom of Information Act in Scotland? A Bill is currently working its way through the Scottish Parliament to update the Freedom of Information Act in Scotland.
