Very much looking forward to the @fontstand conference next week.

I’ll be arriving in Berlin a week early so if anyone has recommendations for events or exhibitions to check out this weekend or early next week please let me know!

I once made an illustrated version of Davida using underwater creatures for my friend’s band’s album art (c. 2006) My knowledge of type at the time was quite limited but I still think Davida was a great choice https://bananawar.bandcamp.com/album/banana-war-ep
I found this photo of my walkman, discman, and mini disc player all purchased when I was an exchange student in Japan c. 2001/2002. Excellent functionality, super light, beautiful design. Last I checked they all work perfectly. I loved this era of portable audio technology
I bought this Walkman in 2001 as an exchange student in Tokyo. I always had a gut feeling this was the pinnacle of Walkman technology since it was a high end Made in Japan model and these stopped being produced a few years later. Looking through the amazing archive
https://Walkman.land I now feel confident that my feeling was correct. I still have the Walkman in perfect condition, including charging stand, rechargeable battery sticks, headphone remote, battery adapter… It’s a thing of beauty

Roel rules! The super useful and ever evolving Wakamai Fondue Beta site now shows named color palettes for COLRv1 fonts, like my Velzyland variable color font ( https://cjtype.com/typefaces/velzyland/#colrv1 ) Especially useful on Wakamai Fondue is the related CSS with an example for how to override specific colors of a palette. Thanks again to Roel for this amazing resource: https://wakamaifondue.com/beta/

For the winter season, https://CJType.com has snow falling down the screen. That snow is made of pixelated emoji from Louvette Pixel. There's now a "Snowfall: Mega Mode" button at the bottom of the screen that you can click to make the emoji snowfall super sized and animates the pixelated variable font axes of Louvette Pixel. If you use this mode on a mobile browser it will probably make your phone hot, which can be a good hand warmer in the cold, but could also drain your battery 🪫 ⚠️

Check it out, some pens have a green coupon code inside worth $15 off a font license, and some have this orange “golden” ticket with a coupon code for $50 off a font license. I had way too much fun making these coupons using the different weights of Counterpress to fit text around the edges and stacked in different ways.

I can’t say the 5pt text prints *perfectly* on a 600x600dpi laser printer, but for being Terms and Conditions “fine print” I’d say it’s as good or better than most

Trying a new concept where I DJ and sell CJ Type merch like type specimen posters, pens, hats, etc. Some merch will have coupon codes for fonts licenses, like you could buy a $5 pen which has a coupon code for $25 off a font license. I wonder if I’ll have any takers? Gonna try it out tomorrow at this makers market where my friend invited me to DJ

This is partly inspired by DJR when he sold floppy disks of fonts and Font of the Month Club cards at Typographics, and maybe at a farmers market?

I just sent out the latest issue of the CJ Type quarterly newsletter ❄️

You can learn about new styles of my typeface Counterpress, along with the typographic branding for a specialty coffee roaster. Also, learn about the snowfall I added to CJType.com, made out of Louvette Pixel VF emoji (using the awesome snowfall web component by @zachleat )
